This evening I revisited a piece of literature that I first read in the 80 s Mog at the Zoo by Helen Nicoll with illustrations by Jan PienkowskiA random book out of many that I picked up for my son at the local library today I was pleasantly surprised when I picked it out of the pile that I had in fact read this as a young boyThat aside this book has everything that a 7 month old needs in a story Magic friendly animals adventure and a happy ending The main character Mog is a cat familiar of a witch called Meg who also has another familiar named Owl no prizes for guessing what type of animal he is The story flows very well with its fast pace set mainly by the fact there is an average of 67 words on each page But what really got me with this book was the ending this book has a cracker of one no way would I have ever predicted the twist to the tale on the last pageThe illustrations complement the story very well in this book admittedly they are basic enough to be rated a rung or two above stick figures but as a review printed inside the front cover by the Sunday Times states A brilliant combination of text and pictures its hard to argue with that
